Upload your video from any Section V varsity sporting event to be featured
on DemocratandChronicle.com … and for a chance to be voted as the play of the year!
We’re asking for your help in submitting videos of great high school sports action that will appear on the on the Democrat and Chronicle’s Varsity Voices and/or democratandhronicle.com website.
You must be 13 years of age or older at time of entry to submit or to be eligible to vote for your favorite sports video on the Varsity-Voices.com website. Weekly winners will be selected each Friday afternoon. The video with the most votes at the end of the school year will be appear on the front page of the Varsity-Voices.com website and be recognized at the All Greater Rochester Sports Awards celebration on June 21, 2017.
How many videos can you submit?
One video per user per day can be submitted.
Can videos be submitted any way other than by uploading to the contest?
No, the only way to submit a video is through the upload link on the Varsity-Voices.com website.
How long should the videos be?
The videos should be 90 seconds (:90) or less in length
Are there format or file size requirements?
All video and movie formats are accepted.
There is no file size limit.

What is the deadline for submitting videos?
All videos must be submitted by midnight on Friday, June 9, 2017
Are there any specific requirements for the video content?
Must be of a Section V varsity sports team.
- Must be from scheduled league play (not practice sessions) during the 2016-17 high school year.
- Must not contain any material which is vulgar, offensive, threatening or questionable nature.
- No graphic overlays are permitted
- Must not Include performance of any copyrighted media production including but not limited to music, films, books, television
- programming, etc., or identifying descriptions of any media property.
- Must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to material that violates privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement. Without limiting the foregoing, Video Submissions must not include third party trademarks, logos, insignia, photographs or artwork.
Are there prizes?
“There are no prizes to individuals. There will be a donation in recognition of the video getting the most votes. The school’s athletic department for the team involved in the “Play of the Year” gets the $500 donation.
D&C Digital has the right and sole discretion to edit, to refuse to publish, or cease to publish any video whatsoever which it finds to be in violation of these standards, or which it finds in its sole discretion to be otherwise objectionable for any reason. Entrants further grant to D&C Digital and the Democrat and Chronicle the right to use and publish their proper name online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Varsity-Voices.com website and related promotional material.
All submissions require the approval of D&C Digital staff before going live on the site. Entries will be approved within 48 hours of being submitted.
Automated voting of any kind is not allowed. Detection of said automated voting will lead to votes being voided. Only one registered account per voter. If multiple accounts are detected for a single voter, the accounts will be disabled and votes disqualified. User voting will remain active until midnight on Friday, June 16, 2017. All vote tallies will be considered final as of that time.
In selecting the video for the front of the Varsity-Voices.com website, D&C Digital reserves the right to limit their choice to content only containing an athlete from an accredited New York State Public High School Athletic Association Section V varsity sports team playing in a sanctioned and scheduled varsity high school event.
Employees of D&C Digital, the Democrat and Chronicle, the USA TODAY Network, Gannett Co., Inc., its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible to participate in the video voting process.
D&C Digital and the Democrat and Chronicle reserve the right to use any and all information related to the special section, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.

Those people who submit a video for publication agree to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the publication of the website.
